Jaisalmer

It`s true that Jaisalmer is a remote and isolated outpost in the Thar Desert, but it is considered one of most exotic towns of Rajasthan. A `;living museum and the ;golden city#146; are two sufficient descriptions for this enchanting town. In fact, travellers who make the effort to get this medieval looking place find something right out of tales of the Arabian Nights.

About Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer Fort, JaisalmerFounded by Maharaja Rawal Jaisal in 1156 A.D, Jaisalmer abounds with its domineering golden yellow sandstone Jaisalmer fort. From the colourful shops to the palaces and the old temples in the magnificent fort, the entire town of Jaisalmer glows in the bright golden colour. Centuries ago its strategic position on the camel trade route between India and Central Asia brought wealth to Jaisalmer. Over the centuries, the merchants and local people constructed beautiful houses and mansions, all elegantly carved from golden yellow sandstone. Apart from these, the camel safaris around the Jaisalmer town take you to the historic places and villages inhabited by sheep and camel herders.

What Make's Jaisalmer Special

- Majestic Jaisalmer Fort India Holidays
- Beautiful Havelis (Mansions)
- Sam Sand Dunes

- Jaisalmer Fort crowns the 80 mt high Trikuta hill, about a quarter of the old town#146;s population resides within the fort walls. Jain temples, havelis, pleasure pavilions and royal cenotaphs combine with the excellent architecture of the fort. The intricately carved trellises, doorways, wall niches, steps and staircases are a testimony to the expertise of the stone carvers of the region. From the fort walls you can have a very fine view of the old city and surrounding areas.

As you move out of the fort, a short walk takes you to the narrow lanes dotted with a number of beautiful havelis (mansions) built by wealthy merchants of Jaisalmer. Patwon ki Haveli, Salim Singh ki Haveli and Natmhal ki Haveli are prominent havelis of the town.

If you want to experience the rich traditions of Rajasthan, then must visit the Sam Sand Dunes, just 25 kms away from the town of Jaisalmer. Here you will get a deep insight into desert life and it`s hidden surprises. Beside, a ride on the camel back will provide you once in a lifetime experience.
